Kim , is it  rubbing on his neck, or the big collar itself?
If it the neck, perhaps you could get some of the fake sheepskin type
fabric and hot glue it around the edge of the collar so it is soft on his
neck.  Glad all is going ok.  That whole ear thing gets real tiresome.
