I know what you mean about the books...  One of Bonnie's favorite things to
do when she was younger was to shred the boxes my extra books were packed
in, then shred the books.    I had (the operative word here) several boxes
of books stacked outside my back door, on the covered porch.  One afternoon
I came home to find pieces of boxes and books ALL OVER my back yard (LOTS of
very small pieces).  Of course, it started to rain that evening, so I had an
even bigger mess to clean after that.

Since then I keep all 3 of my dogs well stocked with pig ears, trachea, and
digestible bones to chew on.  So far it's worked!
