We always thought Ernie was the greatest.  Our thoughts and prayers are with
you.  I wish there were some "magic" words that could make things feel
better.  It seems only time helps us, and all we can remember are the great
times we've had together.  You and Ernie had something special that you can
always be proud of.

I stroked those soft ears that I had absentmindly stroked so many times
before...I looked one last time into those expressive brown eyes and thanked
him for sharing my life, and being the best buddy a girl could ever have.

Then I kissed that big black nose one last time, and he was gone...
