[PyrNet-L] considering a Pyr

Hi Julia and Family and welcome. For some time (many years) I personally
have noted a lack of chronic major health problems in Pyrs compared to the
other large Breeds. Yes there are health problems and yes Breeders do
elbow/hip xrays and yes they can die of cancers and other problems but there
seem to be less of these problems and compared to some of the other large
breeds, Pyrs seem to live longer. What I would stress to you and you seem
well informed in my opinion is that if you do decide on a Pyr then go to a
Breeder who offers hip/elbow xrays, who offers after sales service, who is
honest about health problems, who will be there if your circumstances
change, who will be there to help you all the way through. Drooling?? Even
the Pyr with the tightest lips will drool in the heat of summer and we are
experiencing this at the moment. Size of area? The fencing of area is more
important I feel than the size of area. our fencing here is wooden and deer
fencing but not all Pyrs are "diggers" so what suits one may not suit all.
I think the more questions you ask the better in the long run so don't
apologise for asking questions. All the people on this List would far
rather ensure that if you do decide on a Pyr then you need to know 100%
about them. Opening latches? Can't say I have experienced this but am sure
others have and can offer advice. You've come to the right place in my
opinion to seek answers to your questions but remember every Pyr is
different in their approach to life, some bark more than others, some dogs
eat more, some grow differently, so yes there are many questions to be
answered but having said this I am also a great fan of Bernese too!! Keep
asking Julia and remember it's a 100% committment for 10 years or more!
