[PyrNet-L] Introduction
Hello Everyone! I am brand new to this list and thought I would introduce
myself. I am a forty year old mother of two. Am married to a Navy
submariner. And have been doing Pyr rescue for 10 months. I had never seen a
pyr until we went down to Pyrangel rescue in Deland, FL to adopt a dog (a
none pyr, aussie/ sheltie mix) named Tyler. We visited and fell in love with
Ty whom we adopted and also feel in love with those beautiful and majestic
creatures known as pyrs. Joan Fremo, who is the coordinator for the rescue
asked us if we would mind helping out with rescue if there happened to be
one in our area. I said "Sure!" never really thinking she would call me on
it. Well less then a month later she called us to ask if we could help with
a transport. And that is how we got involved in the world of dog rescue.
Since then I have studied the breed extensively and have done transports,
homechecks, and have fostered dogs waiting for homes. And back in November
we adopted our own pyr named "Beau". He was a real hardluck case. His family
consisted of a woman who loved him dearly and an abusive man who starved
Beau down to 77 pounds and used to lock him in a kennel and would bang on
the kennel with a stick or wine bottle and would scream at him. Needless to
say he was totally traumatized! Then one night "Daddy" came ofter Mom with a
hammer and Beau took him down. Didn't really hurt him, just took him down
and would not let him up. So daddy took him and dumped him at the ASPCA
after telling them about how much he abused the wife and dog! What a
collosal jerk! So because mom was never allowed to leave the house Beau has
major seperation anxiety, and a heart murmer that is mild and will not
affect his life span and quality of life but made him less then perfect, and
so would make him hard to place in a regular home. So we adopted him and he
is the most wonderful boy in the world! Well this is turning into a novel.
So I will close for now.
