I start slowly when weaning a dog from sleeping in a crate at night. I use
a baby gate to contain them in just the bedroom at first. They find it a
little more difficult to 'settle' for the first few nights, but then get the
hang of it. After a while, when I feel confident that they are ok just in
the room, I gradually expand the access they get to the house until they
finally get the run of it. By then they usually just sleep in the bedroom
anyway :-).

I do not, however, have the temptation of feather down quilts! LOL! (I am
allergic to them). The other types perhaps just don't have the same appeal
:-).
