There is a universal and regular scanner. The universal picks up avid and
schering chips. The regular scanner picks up schering chips, and displays
"AVID CHIP" to let you know the dog is chipped.
Our clinic debated doing tattooing or chiping. The Dr. decided that chipping
was better because a tattoo can be altered, but the chip information cannot.
The chip only takes a second to insert, I chipped my dogs myself. It is given
just like a subcutaneous vaccine.
