Re: [PyrNet-L] what made you choose a Pyr?
I was a Poodle person. My husband and I had a Standard that did
conformation and obedience. As my boys got older they didn't want the chore
of walking this dog and wanted their "own" dog. They went through the AKC
Complete Dog book and decided on a Great Pyrenees.
Their dad and I read all the information and decided this would be a fine
addition to our animal family - but, where could we find one? I remembered
an school friend of mine had married and moved to Colorado. When she sent
Christmas pictures of her family, there was a Great Pyrenees in the middle.
I tried to contact her to locate the breeder from whom she got her dog but
there were no puppies available there. Finally, right before Christmas, my
husband found an ad in the paper for a litter. He purchased a female puppy
and drove home with her on the dashboard of his van. She was everything we
expected of a Pyr and more. I guess the reason I choose a Pyr would have to
be, "The children made me do it."
We had been planning a move to the country at the time and anticipated
having goats, chickens, ducks, geese and pigs so the timing was right and
the dog was right for us.
We have had one ever since (20 years).
