That's the information we have been given from two different vets. We keep
our dogs on heartworm meds year-round, again on vet. advice, and if we go
a bit longer in the midst of a New England winter, we don't worry too
much.  

Thanks to all who responded re senior food--kind of what I figured! No
need to worry unless there are health problems.
