Re: [PyrNet-L] Question:
Yes, plenty have taken
obedience. The Pyr with the most titles (if I'm not mistaken) is Am/Can
Ch. Can OTCH Peerage Wolftrap Kid Jubilee Am/Can UD, Am TD HOF.
In Paul Strang's book The New
Complete Great Pyrenees it states "There are now over 300 Pyrs that have
earned a CD, and some fifty have entered the GPCA's Obedience Hall of Fame with
CDXs." And this was written in 1991 so you know there has to be way
more now. (I'm just now getting into obedience as competition so I don't
know all the details on recent accomplishments of other dogs.)
Moses and I were in obedience
class (level one) and graduated winning 4th place in the entire class of about
8-10 other dogs (Retrievers, Herding breeds, etc.) and tied first for the long
sit and long down. He just, Tuesday, earned his Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
& he'll be only 8 months old Sunday.
So, with a little work, it
can be done.

I'm going to be tacky and respond to me own
post b/c I feel that I should clarify that I realize, as a breed, Pyreness
aren't the best or easiest dogs to train or take to obedience classes. But
I'm sure some, if not many, have done it and I'm curious as to how it worked
out.
Originol message:
I have a question I hope some of you can
give me some insight on:
I'm considering having Kane (my rescue dog)
trained/taken to obedience classes. Has anyone here done that with their
Pyre and if so, how did it work out?
The thing that worries me is that some trainers might
use the dominance flip on Kane, and since he is a little weary of people
anyway, that might be too much for him.
