[PyrNet-L] Hazards of Home-Prepared Diet
Our Pyr, Clondike, has lymphoma and has attained a remission using
chemotherapy. We have explored various supplements and dietary changes to
extend the length of this remission. As part of this program our
holistic vet recommended the addition of cooked meat to supplement her
prescription food.
While stewing hamburger last Sunday night (2:00 am Monday, actually), I
dropped the Corningware dish (probably a 28 year-old wedding present), and
tried to catch it as it shattered on the kitchen counter on its way to the
floor. A shard managed to hit me between the fingers, nicking an artery!
Our kitchen soon looked like Jeffrey Dahmer's (mass murderer), with blood
and hamburger grease everywhere! It took a night in the emergency room
and five stitches to staunch the bleeding (they needed a tourniquet just
to examine the damage).
My secretary and dog buddy asked if we fed Clondike before departing for
the hospital. Of course we did!!! Maybe I'll pay more attention to the
advocates of a raw meat diet from now on.
David (healing nicely now) and Clondike (what was all the fuss about)
