I believe your referring to what is commanly called the "Napolean Stance"
This is expecially true with french dogs.  If you remember your history,
Napolean quite often sent his troops to war while looking the other way.
The people of Newfoundland were quite appalled at this during those 
times during the French and British wars.  I would suggest reading more
about the Napolean years and speaking as much English as possible to 
solve the problem....
