[PyrNet-L] Words of wisdom???
The phrase "don't shoot the dog" is running through my head. I'm so
frustrated I'm going to scream!!
I have had a feeling for a few weeks now that the teenage years were
upon me with Lucy. And so far have thought, this wasn't so bad. But,
before I throw money at the problem and take her to *more* classes, this
time with a behaviorist.........someone calm me down.
We don't want to go into the truck, we don't want to get out of the
truck. We don't want to go outside, we don't want to come inside. I
don't want to play with you.....but hey! the neighbor is here and I'll
play with her. Going for a walk is nice, but I won't walk forward, I'm
going to stand 10 feet behind you, stop in the middle of nowhere for no
apparant reason, and refuse to move.
I never let her win. I pick her up and put her in the truck. I grab
her shoulders and carry her *out* of the truck. We do walk twice a day.
Sometimes better than others, sometimes 2 miles, sometimes to the corner
and back (for fear I lose my temper!)
I'm torn between ignoring her, and letting her choose that I am the fun
thing to do (may be awhile, and I don't want to increase her distance
from me.). Or acting like a circus clown, with a buffet of treats on
hand to get to her acknowledge my existence!!! ARRGGGHHHH!!!!
I have good alpha status with her, she has never directly challenged me,
and obeys her basic commands reliably 99.9% of the time. It sounds like
she has a bad case of something I've read about called "passive
resistance".
Please tell me someone else has gone through this, and that it will go
away!!
I live by the philosophy that there are no bad dogs! (with few
exceptions) just bad owners. She's got me beat right now.
