Re: [PyrNet-L] Training Pyrs

We too took Paddington for a CGC test on a whim....happened to be at a dog
fun fair where they were offering it....and he passed with flying colors
after having done some basic obedience. I don't train him for the ring
because of his knee, but I once in a while run him through the exercises
and it's remarkable how well he remembers and executes them. Of course,
once in a while for 5 minutes at a time and he doesn't get bored! And it's
usually a time and place where there's not too much interesting going on!
A funny story from last year's Bayside Cluster Show in Boston. Peg was
stewarding in an obedience ring. A young chocolate lab was doing a
terrific job, paying attention to his person, responding the way every
handler hopes their dog will act in the ring, when a Chinese crested
appeared in the next ring. In the middle of the recall, the lab caught
sight of it and screeched to a halt, with an expression that said, "What
the ????? is that?" To his credit, he then remembered where he was and
finished the exercise with nothing worse than the loss of a couple of
points, but everyone, including the judge I think, had all kinds of
sympathy for the lab!
