[PyrNet-L] Protective Pyrs
Pyr lovers,
This is a request for commentary from veteran and newbie Pyr owners.
This weekend my future stepchildren were here for their "weekend with Dad."
Several times during the day, a commercial aired on several channels for a
movie called "Child's Play" which is a horror type movie.
Post-bedtime, Matthew who is 11, and Chris who is 13, came out of their rooms
frightened that "someone" was is the house ALA "Chucky" from the horror movie.
Both Jerry and I attempted to explain that Paddy the Pyr was "on-duty" and was
guarding the homestead. We ran down the traditional issues like did they
think anyone in their right mind would try to break in with Paddy staring them
in the face? We also reminded them that there were four Tibetan Spaniels with
the sharpest hearing around also on duty to warn Paddy if anyone attempted to
break in. (stop laughing, Charlotte! <vbg>)
What else could we have said? Both boys said that if someone came in with a
gun they could have shot Paddy (silencer on gun so we would not hear) and then
come upstairs and murdered the rest of us. So just how to you all handle
these things? Adrienne's recent post about Patou covers canine intrusion and
the Pyrs protective ability, but what about all these other things?
We live in Frederick, MD, which is a midsize town. Our subdivision
fortunately is relatively safe. At least as safe as any town can be these
days.
Suggestions, PLEASE!!! I know this issue will come up again someday and need
all the response ideas I can get!
Thanks!
Stephanie and Paddy
