Mine are usually back to normal by the next morning. I usually just feed them 1/2 their 
amount of food and *try to get them to stay still. Where is he used to staying when 
you're not home? I'd keep him inside, crated if you have to so he doesn't get the 
incision dirty. Every breed group I've ever heard claim that "their" breed is different as 
far as anesthesia. Any giant breed is going to have a slower metabolism, but vets know 
that. My Pyrs are the only ones my vet had done surgery one & they popped right up 
afterwards and did just fine. None of them (I've got 5 neutered boys) seemed to be in 
any kind of pain at all.
His weight sounds fine. I wouldn't be concerned about that at all.
