The following question may seem like a trivial or "no brainer" at first
glance, but give it your careful consideration, please.

Historically (from 500, or many more, to 100 years ago), is the Great Pyrenees
a dog  employed for predator protection by the Basque Shepherds in the
Pyrenees?  If you believe "yes" take the time to backtrack your source of
information and share it with us all.  If you belive "no", share with us your
information.   If the Basque were not the primary users of the Pyrs, who were?
Quibble all you want as I know there will not be any black and white lines
here, but huge areas of shades of gray (grey).  

Would love some bibliography or other references.
