I am sure this will be most people's response.  As well as probably the 
easiest and most sure fire answer.  However...re-read the entire story 
again.  It took me a third reading to truly *see* what the dog was 
reacting too.  
naturally we tend to want dogs to give children some le-way.  However in 
the world of the LGD a predator is a predator.  The child, even though 
harmelss, was acting in a threatening manor.  (at leas tthe way the 
story reads she was)
I will say this...unless these people are willing to do what needs to be 
done, so that this will not happen again, then euthinasia is the only 
answer.  I do not beleive, from what I have read, that this is a dog 
with an agression problem, rather a sure fire case of mistaken 
identity...
Still...it doesn't make the scars of the child any less important.
