Broadcast from dshort via PBM Server
Yes its me dshort again, the master tournament organizer on
the PBM server. I must say that it is remarkably easy for
me to organize single elimination events on the server.
However, my time is limitted. Obviously I am only going to
be organizing tournaments for games which are of interest
to me. Well in any event I am here to make an announcement
for a new PBM tournament:
I will organize and run a 16-player single elimination
quickchess tournament. Quickchess is played on a 5 by 6
board and you can check out the rules at
http://www.gamerz.net/pbmserv/quickchess.html
I'm going to structure this tournament exactly the same
way that I have for other events I have run on PBM in the
past for single elimination events. Once I have received
16 entries, I shall rank them one thru sixteen according
to the most up-to-the-minute quickchess standings from PBM,
ranking established players above provisionals, and unrated
players at the bottom in alphabetical order. The first
round pairings are 1 vs. 16, 2 vs. 15, 3 vs. 14, 4 vs. 13,
5 vs. 12, 6 vs. 11, 7 vs. 10 and 8 vs. 9
After the first round I re-seed the players one thru 8
and we go 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5 in the
second round. For the third round we again re-seed, going
1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3
When we get down to the last two players, they will play a
best two out of three games match to determine the winner of
the tournament. The two third round losers will play one game
for third place.
I am going to use the same time controls for this event which
I have incorporated into some other recent chess and chess
variant tournaments I have run: 180 days to complete all
moves, and I would request that players take not more than
30 days vacation time during their games.
If you would like to enter the quickchess tournament please
email your pbm userid to me at DavidNYJfan@hotmail.com
