Introducing a brand new OTHELLO tournament on the PBM server!
That's right! It's OTHELLO! One of the oldest games and most loved
around! This tournament is simple. Maximum number of entries is 16
players.
First come, first serve, so if you want to play in it, hurry and
email me your PBM userid at DavidNYJfan@hotmail.com
This will be a single-elimination tournament. After I have received 16
entries I will rank those players according to the up-to-the-minute
Checkers standings on PBM, ranking established players over
provisionally
rated players, and ranking unrated players at the bottom in alphabetical
order. In the first round, the parings are 1 vs. 16, 2 vs. 15, 3 vs. 14,
4 vs. 13, 5 vs. 12, 6 vs. 11, 7 vs. 10 and 8 vs. 9
Then the winners are ranked 1 through 8 and the second round pairings
are 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 8
Again reseed and third round pairings are 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3
culminating in two players advancing to a best two-out-of-three
championship match. There are no prizes in this tournament, we just play
for fun and pride, though all games will be rated on the pbm server.
(Please note that in the unlikely event of a tie game, the lower
ranked player will advance to the next round.)
I would ask that if you wish to play in this tournament that you EMAIL
me directly at DavidNYJfan@hotmail.com --- please do NOT use the
"message"
feature through PBM to contact me to inform me of your wish to play. I
need
an email address to contact you. I will be emailing all of the players
to announce the pairings before each round and I will send in the
challenge
commands myself. If you have a limit or reject set up on the number of
checkers challenges you will accept, please remove it before you contact
me
to sign up for the tournament. Also please make sure to specify when you
write me that you wish to play in the OTHELLO tournament, as I will also
be running a CHECKERS tournament concurrently with it. (It is
permissible
to enter both tournaments.) GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
