Re: [pbmserv-dev] Re: [pbmserv] Palago notation?

Well, yes it could, and it is, with the GUI. The notation is superfluous
for me, for playing here on Gamerz.

Superfluous? Without it you wouldn't be playing the game here on gamerz.net :)

By way of comparison, the current center of mass system would be much
more difficult to use with a real set.

It would be virtually impossible if the double layer of moves are to be included.

If you are concerned about an easy to use notation system for physical
games, then a double coordinate grid, perhaps similar to what is used for
Trax, would be one solution, awkward looking or not.

Trax is played on a square grid which has a simpler geometry than the hexagonal grid and is much easier to notate. This is the main problem.

I don't see Tantrix listed on the Gamerz help page. Andantino is
listed, but it's strictly pbem, not GUI. How do players make moves
in Andantino?

I think the moves are just listed column-by-column, top-to-bottom. Someone (barticus?) suggested this for Palago and this would probably be as good a notation system as any if moves are to be replayed using a physical set.

It would only work for a single layer of moves around the outside, but the second move each turn could simply be described in relation to the piece just played. It would be extremely tedious to count through the potential moves to identify a particular point of interest when say 40 tiles are in play and offer many opportunites for miscounting, but it may be the best of a set of suboptimal choices.
