[pbmserv-dev] K2z realtime Twixt server
Richard has very kindly allowed use of his hardware to host the K2z
realtime Twixt server.
* Download Client: http://www.gamerz.net/k2z/download (Windows)
* Server URL: www.gamerz.net Port: 57017(default)
* Login: guest1,2,3,...9 Password: guest1,2,3,...9
The way things stand right now, almost no one ever uses this server.
For one thing, even after you go to the trouble of downloading the
client, when you first fire it up you may see:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /k2zWelcome.html on this server.
Apache/1.3.36 Server at www.k2z.org port 80
You can still log on to the server, if you follow the above
instructions, but you're not likely to find anyone to play, except
possibly a couple of online bots which show up from time to time.
Philippe Van Schendel, who created the server software and the
K2z website, is unfortunately too busy these days to maintain it.
He tells me that most of his website code, which is in both html and
php, already exists on Richard's machine, but there currently aren't
any links to it.
Apparently, what needs to be done to restore the website is, someone
needs to understand how php works on Richard's server, and how to
do remote access (so that, for example, people can register usernames.)
It used to be a nice website, with a rather comprehensive list of
Twixt-related links.
I realize this is a significant amount of work, and even after doing
all that, the server might not ever become particularly popular. There
used to be a few hardcore fanatics, but it was a sort of Catch-22
situation. There weren't enough average players to attract more
average players.
I just thought I would explain the situation, in the hopes that
someone might be willing to restore some life to Philippe's labor
of love. Thanks for your time.
