I just had an idea for a perudo variant...

normally, if you call a bluff, you lose a die.   fine.

But what if, in addition, if you happen to be the callee (person who
made the "bid" that is being called) and that bid is the highest 
bid possible...   you GAIN a die.

suddenly there is an incentive to try to make the right bid early.

sure you can softball it... but a hardball becomes exciting.

Or if, as the caller, you can instead say "exacto" (is that the
term I've heard used).

Basically, you are agreeing that the bid is the highest possible.
And if you are right, you don't lose a die.   (used in conjunction 
with the earlier rule, the bidder gains a die, you you don't lose one)
