You should definitely test locally first.

I don't remember the details, but somewhere (fairly obvious) in the
PBeM environment is a script that calls sendmail (possibly named
something like SENDMAIL).  For testing, I change the script to
just "cat" instead of mailing.

You should also mimic the PBeM environment and directory structure
on your local machine.  Some other obvious envariable (PBMROOT?)
defines where your local PBeM environment will be rooted.
