Attention all Cub Scouts!



The summer hike is scheduled for Sunday, July 18 at 3:00 pm at the Scotts Run Nature Preserve.  It is a 2.2 mile hike along the Potomac River just west (outside) of the beltway along Georgetown Pike in Great Falls.  The main attraction is the waterfall.  The hike starts along Georgetown Pike and heads downhill toward the river.  The hike is a small loop with the return route back uphill to the parking lot. Directions - take the Dulles Toll Road east towards DC and exit onto the beltway (route 495).  Take the beltway north approximately 2-3 miles to exit 13 - Georgetown Pike.  At the end of the ramp, turn left and go west on Georgetown Pike (Route 193). There are 2 parking lots for the Scotts Run Nature Preserve.  The smaller lot is approximately 0.2 miles west of the exit and the larger lot is approximately 0.4 miles.  Both lots are on the right side (north) of the road.  We will meet in the larger lot.  Please try and get there by 3:00.  It should take about 25 minutes to get to the larger parking lot from Fox Mill Estates.   



Bring appropriate footwear such as boots or sneakers.  Do not wear sandals, crocs or flipflops for the hike.  The highlight of the hike is the waterfall which empties into the Potomac River.  There is the abilty to wade in the creek near the falls which will be refreshing if the weather is hot.  If the boys go wading in their shoes, it will be a soggy hike back to the cars so you might want to bring a change of shoes and a towel. The kids can always go barefoot in the stream.
