[HOE] Armor durability
This angry, little man from way up north just can't
seem to keep his mouth shut. Therefore, I'm gonna let
y'all in on how we northernes let our armor get ripped
apart.
Well, we couldn't possibly see how a kevlar vest which
had been near multiple shrapnel grenades, would do us
any good, seeing as it would've been ripped to pieces.
Our dear old marshall wouldn't let us walk around with
ripped up armor which would still give us the same AV
value. Therefore, we invented this little system.
Whenever a bodypart which is covered with armor is
hit, you calculate the damage as you normally would
(lowering the die type according to the AV value).
After the damage has been calculated, we divide the
damage to a number decided by the weapons ammo
caliber.
'22 - 7.62mm: Is divided by 10 (I.E. If a man is shot
by a colt 45 to the chest and takes 18 damage, this
means 1 point of durability loss to your armor,
brainer. I'll get to the amount of durability for each
armor later)
'50 - 20mm : Is divided by 5
25mm ++: Is divided by 2 (this means, stay away from
the cannon......)
When your brainer is so lucky as to be attacked by a
massive damage weapon, the armor will lose durability
points, according to how many wounds it saved from
your pifitul waster.
I.E. Little Johnny is walkin' down the street. All of
a sudden, he is ambushed by Throckmorton's goons. They
toss a grenade on the poor sucker. Luckily , to the
extent there is luck in such a situation, Johnny is
wearing an IBS (Infantry BattleSuit, brainer.....). He
takes 30 points of damage (to understand this, you
should look at my previous entry on massive damage).
1 wound to the noggin'
1 wound to the left arm
3 wounds to the guts
The wound to the is taken, as he is not smart enough
to wear a helmet (kids these days......I guess he'll
have to man up, and take it like a man).
Seein as the IBS has a -4 to the arms, we roll a d6 to
determine whether or not the wound would be saved by
his armor. We give it a 50% chance, and on even
numbers it is saved. Johnny then loses 1 durability
point to the armor on his left arm, this only occurs
if the lucky bastard, had his wound saved by the
armor.
The IBS also has an AV 2 to the guts. Therefore, 2 of
the 3 wounds are automatically saved by the armor. He
must take the last wound. However, an equal amount of
the wounds taken, is lost as durability points to the
armor in the guts.
Durability points for a kevlar vest (same for Police
Vest AV 1):
Guts: 6
Durability points for Swat Tactical Armor:
Arms: 5
Guts: 6
Legs: 5
The Swat Tactical Armor gives a -2 to survival rolls
made agains heat. This is to justify the
price-difference between it and a IBS
Durability points for HI Resiwave armor:
Arms: 5
Guts: 6
Legs: 5
The HI Resiwave armor gives a -2 to survival rolls
made agains heat. This is to justify the
price-difference between it and a IBS. And the fact
that one is not meant to wander around the deserts
wearing such a large armor, it is mainly meant for
warfare over shorter periods of time.
Durability points for all armor which provides a
decrease in damage (I.E. Leather jacket -4):
Arms: 5
Guts: 6
Legs: 5
Durability for all helmets:
Noggin': 4
Durability for IBS:
Arms: 5
Guts: 8
Legs: 5
The IBS also provides a +2 to all survival rolls which
involves cold and heat. The reason we gave the IBS a
higher DP rating in the guts is that it simply costs
to much compared to the Tactical Armor. It is also
meant to last over long periods of warfare. Feel free
to lower the price on it, and give it a lower DP
rating, we just felt that this was not the way to go.
All comments are recieved with gratitude (at least the
good ones).
BTW, I loved the Tale-Teller AB.

may go now."
