RE: [HOE] Unity Spoilers in Lost Colony

The reason for spoiler space despite the contents of the subject line is
that some email programs automatically preview messages.

In the Weird West, a bulletproof vest is made using mad science, an
inherently unstable method. As you say yourself, Hellstrome is not stupid.
While he may be the original "mad scientist," Hellstrome is more of an
occultist that *uses* science. He would not depend on such equipment
against his true foes. Also even claws that did 3d6 would be reduced to Str
+ 1d4 against AV3. Even something with immense strength would be
hard-pressed to get through the Unity.

As to demons having magic of some sort or another, it has not been shown
that the majority of them do have these abilities. And those that do seem
to have powers related to fire of some sort which the Unity has additional
resistance to. Remember, Hellstrome is going to one, specific area of Hell
that he has been to a few times before. He knows the opposition, and the
Unity is built to handle it.

And to reiterate, weight *is* an issue here. It may not have any major
"game mechanic" associated to it, but AV3 starship armor that weighs a tenth
or less of AV3 steam wagon armor is a huge improvement, especially for
Hellstrome's uses.

As to your assertion regarding the advancement of technology in HOE, I can
only assume you haven't read some of the sourcebooks. There are
descriptions of advanced medications, hoverbikes, miniaturized computers,
and if you recall, ComSat is an AI. In my opinion, I'd be rather surprised
if we had a fraction of the advanced technology described in HOE in the next
80 years.

"You smell that? Do you smell that? ...Ghost Rock, son. Nothing else in the
world smells like that. I love the smell of ghost rock in the morning. You
know, one time we had a hill bombed, for twelve hours. When it was all over
I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' Yank body. The
smell, you know that sulphurous smell, the whole hill. Smelled like...
victory. Someday this war's gonna end..."
