Technology Problems Was Re: [HOE] Unity Spoilers in Lost Colony
Well, there are a few points to consider here...
1.There are holographs, and hover-vehicles. The reason computers don't seem
as fast is that adding another dimension to video output(arguably the most
memory-consuming process on a computer) is gonna take a whole lot more
power. Now, with cars, the look is nowadays becoming more oriented on style
and aerodynamics. While there are some aerodynamic cards in the HOE
universe, they look rather dorky compared with the cars of the early 20th
century. And gaselectric vehicles must not've worked out. There's only so
much you can squeeze out of a gallon of gas, hence the similar MPG.
2.Normal science for standard devices was temporarily(for about 50 years,
until WWII, I think..) slowed while mad science was the biggest thing since
sliced bread. That puts us at about 40 years advancement beyond what we've
got now. I would enjoy nothing more than hover vehicles and holograms
within the next 40 years.
3.Since the aspect of the hunting grounds was introduced, more scientists
are there to focus on studying it. That means less scientists for
traditional stuff, and once again slower development.
Aah, I can't resist...
