Josephine Carmichael, Saint of Swordsmanship Josephine Carmichael wasn’t her real name. No-one knows what her real name was, not even herself. Josephine Carmichael did not know herself. She did not know her real name or her real past, only lies and dreams swirling around in her head. As a Templar she performed a great many deeds that will be remembered in the annals of the Templars but all of them were directed towards the purpose of finding out who she actually was. Without an identity or past to define herself Josephine devoted herself to defining herself by her skill with the sword. Her skill with the sword was incredible and very few could approach her skill. Even Simon and Jo could not really match her in a one-on-one fight. Her skill was that of the assassin, cold, calm and methodical. She wasn’t however one to leave enemies to bleed to death. Most were killed in only one or two blows from her cold sword "Revenge". This also applied to the many abominations she fought as a Templar. We do not know anything about the past of this Martyr, only that she was a Templar before she became a Martyr. We do not know many of her deeds either for she was not one to remain in Boise for long on the rare times she went there. We do not how she finally died, for a visiting Librarian returned her sword and tabard which he had taken from a dead scavenger. We do not even know if she found her real identity. She never visits blessed Templars with such visions. She visits them instead with visions of blades dancing in the air. Perhaps even in death she still defines herself and others by their skill with the sword. It is certainly what she is remembered for. The Deed: Saint Carmichael appears to those who defeat a major "fearmonger" or tyrant of the Wastes single-handedly using only a melee weapon. In doing this they define themselves as worthy of Carmichael’s attention because they are worthy of the blade they carry. She makes this very clear to the Templar’s she visits Josephine Carmichael, Saint of Swordsmanship Josephine was a cold woman with no past and as she saw it no future. She had only the present and her sword and it was this combination that made her the deadly swordmaster that she was. Deed: In order to attract the attention of Saint Carmichael a Templar must single-handedly slay a fearmonger or other important villain in melee. This can’t be a simple hack at the bad guy while he’s down. In order to earn Josephine’s attention the fight must be one of fairly equal skill. White: The Templar gains an extra hand-to-hand attack on one of their action cards. This ability can only be used once a round. Red: By spending a red chip the Templar doubles the amount of damage down by a successful melee attack. Blue: If the Templar successfully vamooses against an opponent in hand-to-hand combat they may make an automatic melee attack in return. This attack must target the brainer that the Templar vamoosed from. This ability lasts for the Templar’s Faith in rounds. Legend: The Templar’s sword becomes a magical weapon. It affects creatures that are immune to normal weapons but also ignores the immunities of non-unique abominations. It also permanently puts down non-unique abominations that have to be killed in a specific way (such as Doombringers). This ability does not work against unique abominations or servitors. This lasts for the Templar’s Faith in rounds. Vexation: Josephine perhaps fired her pistol a dozen times in her lifetime. She almost always used her sword. Any Templar who begins to rely on their guns too much is forsaken. Ultimately this is the Marshal’s call.
Gunter Jurgenson, Saint of the Hunt The Wasted West isn’t a nice place to live. All sorts of monsters brought forth from human fear stalk the helpless across the American West. Few people stand up to these monster but there are heroes, as rare as they may be who will not only fight these abominations but will take the fight to them. One of these true heroes was a man named Gunter Jurgenson. Gunter Jurgenson was a big game hunter before the war and as a sniper in the Last War he had fought alongside the Canucks. One Canadian soldier told Jurgenson the stories told in winter about monsters called Wendigos who lived on human flesh. It was ironic that soon after this story was told Jurgenson’s troop encountered a Wendigo. It tore into them, killing several of them. Jurgenson’s level-headedness and experience as a hunter took over and he plugged the monster in the head with his rifle, killing it with only one shot. Soon after this event the Apocalypse came and civilisation went all to hell. Accustomed to long winter nights Jurgenson and his men (after the encounter with the Wendigo they looked to him for guidance) eventually came across the town of Leavenworth and settled down there. The inhabitants didn’t complain because the town itself was under siege from Wendigos and Leavenworth as a result was beginning to starve. So Jurgenson and his men became the hunters (or Jaegars) of the town, bringing back fresh meat and killing Wendigos. Jurgenson excelled at the latter. All his skills as a tracker and a hunter were put to the test as he stalked Wendigos through the snow-covered mountains. He killed several of them in his role as guardian of Leavenworth and the people of Leavenworth looked upon him and his men as saints. Unfortunately Jurgenson proved too successful a hunter of Wendigos and he earned the enmity of the Reckoners who sent their deadly servant Stone after him. Jurgenson, so long the hunter became the hunted through those same wastes he had stalked so many Wendigos. It is testament to his skill as a hunter that he lasted for over a month before Stone finally caught him, killing him with a single bullet to the head. The Deed: Jurgenson’s favourite trick when it came to hunting Wendigos was to track the monster back to it’s lair and then shoot it in the head as it came out to hunt. He killed the majority of his Wendigos this way and he blesses Templars who pull off a similar feat.
Gunter Jurgenson, Saint of the Hunt Deed: Jurgenson appears to Templars who track down and kill a powerful abomination or group of abominations in their "lair" or base of operations. Black Hats don’t cut it but a Doombringer and his servants would. White: "To find the Beast". The Templar gains +4 to any Cognition or Smarts based roll. This chip can be spent after the total is otherwise determined. Red: "To outlast the Beast". By spending a red chip the Templar finds sufficient food and water to feed and water himself and his companions (in other words a posse) for one day. This works no matter the environment, the Templar somehow finds food in the most hostile of environments. The food and water mightn’t necessarily be tasty but it is edible and not poisonous or toxic (or irradiated either) Blue: "To kill the Beast". The Templar’s next attack hits a truly vital spot doing an extra 3 dice of damage. You still roll hit location or can call a shot though, so it is possible to cause even more damage if you hit the gizzards or head (ouch!) Legend: If the Templar ever wants to know where a person or abomination they’re hunting is and they have something that belongs to whatever they’re hunting then spending a Legend chip will enable them to know exactly where what they’re hunting is. It doesn’t matter how hard they hide or how much distance they put between themselves and the Templar, the Templar will instinctively know exactly where they are. This ability lasts for as long as what is being hunted is alive. If the Templars loses the hunted’s item then the ability still work and the Templar can have this ability activated more than once at any one time without being confused in any way by it. Vexation: Jurgenson could never turn down a call for help. If the Templar ever turns down a call of help then Jurgenson leaves them. This doesn’t apply if the people asking for help are scum (Marshal’s decision) but it can (and does) conflict with the Templar’s test of worth. Thanks,
