[HOE] Final group of Martyrs (part 1)

These are the last of the Martyrs I've made (and don't worry, there aren't any more!) but due to maximum size etc. I've got them spread over two postings. I'd like to thank any of you how actually liked these ideas and didn't immediately say "what an amateur!". I'd like to thank those how actually plan on using any of the Martyrs I've made several times more. Finally which of the martyrs did you folks like the most? I'm not asking out of arrogance but I dod want to know where I got it right.
Anyway thanks again and here are the first two (the other two are in a seperate posting)

Adolph Steiner, Saint of Defiance

Adolph Steiner was a German soldier who became trapped in the American West after the Last War. One of the elite Fallschirmjaegars Steiner wasn’t one to simply sit around and go to pieces about the World ending so he set out to do what he had always done best, defend those who couldn’t defend themselves. Following such a path it was inevitable that Steiner would encounter forces of the Combine. His first encounter with the Combine came one evening when he came into a survivor settlement and found the survivors being harassed and intimidated by a bunch of men in black hats. Steiner told them quite shortly to go away and quite unsurprisingly the Black Hats reacted rather poorly. A firefight ensued where Steiner killed all 12 Black Hats while only suffering minor wounds himself.

After he left the settlement Steiner saw evidence of the Combine’s tyranny all through the Wastes. Although he despised the Black Hats as bullies and ultimately cowards he particularly hated automatons which he saw as killing machines lacking any conscience. He dedicated himself to fighting the Combine and soon was hailed by survivors throughout the Wastes as an Automaton killer and the bane of Black Hats. Quite strangely the electronics in his bionic eye enabled him to use Combine weaponry as well which further made him respected by the survivors and hated by the Black Hats. Although they made several attempts on his life Steiner continued to dog the Black Hats and especially any automatons outside of Denver.

Sadly it was the Combine’s automatons which were to finally end Steiner. One day he and a number of companions were ambushed by Black Hats accompanied by automatons while they were escorting a bunch of survivors to Junkyard. knowing it was a fight he and his companions could not win Steiner stood alone, commanding his companions to retreat and to take the survivors with them. Shouting defiance at the Combine forces Steiner stood strong, his assault rifle blazing. He died in that battle but took three automatons and eight Black Hats with him in addition to the scores of the Combine’s minions he had sent to the graveyard or the junkyard before that day.

The Deed:

While he was alive Steiner proved a thorn in Throckmorton’s side. Even though he has now passed beyond he still is a bane of the Combine, looking out fir those Templars who take the fight to the Combine. Steiner blesses those Templars who single-handedly destroy a Combine Automaton.

Adolph Steiner, Saint of Defiance

Like all great heroes of the Wastes, Steiner fought the Reckoners at every turn but it his violent defiance towards the Combine that he is most renowned for. He earned the personal animosity of Throckmorton without ever entering Denver and any Templar blessed by Saint Steiner may just do the same

Deed: In order to earn the attention of Saint Steiner a Templar must either single-handedly destroy a Combine automaton or kill at least 8 Black Hats in one encounter.

White: The Templar gains +4 to any one shootin’ roll. This chip can be used after the total is otherwise determined.

Red: The Templar gains the ability to use any piece of Combine equipment without it exploding in their hands. This ability lasts for a number of hours equal to the Templar’s faith. Any piece of Combine equipment carried by the Templar when this power expires doesn’t explode; it just permanently ceases to function.

Blue: The Templar ignores all armour including supernatural or natural for one attack. This can be used after hit location is rolled but must be used before damage is determined.

Legend: For one round all shooting attacks the Templar makes automatically hit in the head. Don’t roll hit location brainer. If a burst is fired then all the bullets in the burst hit in the head.

Vexation: Steiner really hated the Combine and he expects any hero to feel likewise. If the Templar ever works with or aids elements of the Combine (including Black Hats) or if they ever refuse to aid a settlement being attacked by the Combine then Steiner leaves them.

Sarah Covenant, Saint of Darkness

Some people automatically associate the darkness with evil. Sometimes they’re right. Other times they’re wrong. With Saint Covenant they’re wrong big-time even though few get darker than she was.

Sarah Covenant was quite different to the other wasters trying to survive following the Big Bang. Most of her family survived and as a group they eked out a living near a bombed town with 20 other survivor. On night however three dark men strode into their settlement. They were vampires. They moved through the settlement, feeding on the survivors, turning some into vampires and making others mindless servants. Sarah Covenant was one of those who became a vampire. However Covenant kept her free-will and inherent goodness even though most of the new vampires became evil thralls of the Three (as the three vampires grandly called themselves). Maybe it was because she had a heart of gold that could not be completely spoilt. Or maybe it was because one of the Three was planning to make her his wife. Whatever the case Covenant knew she had to escape. She took the earliest opportunity, leaving on a dawn one morning as the other vampires returned to their sleep for the day. However before she left she murdered all the members of her family as they slept, whether they were vampires or slaves. She had no desire for them to be fully embraced by evil. After that deed she stumbled out into the morning. The pain it inflicted on her vampiric body was immense, worse than any Ghost Storm. She struggled to find shelter. She should have been killed by the rays of the sun but somehow she managed to survive. She eventually found Boise after many months of travelling at night. She had heard of the Templars and saw in them a chance to lessen the dark stain on her soul that was her damnation as a Vampire. She became a squire under an experienced Templar. She developed the skills and gifts of a Templar quickly but she never earned the attention of any of the Martyrs. It was as if the saints themselves were wary of her. This when combined with her unnatural paleness and her habit of disappearing during the day should have made us suspicious of her. And yet we didn’t suspect anything. She became a Templar after only seven months, quite nearly a record. After the knighting ceremony she left quietly at night.

No-one saw her for six months. Then she abruptly returned one night, changed. Her eyes were bloodshot, her skin paler than ever and her mouth was smeared with blood. She didn’t say anything, she simply went to the Hall of Heroes and sat down at it’s door to wait the morning. As the morning sun rose she also rose, watching it, her face tense. Then as the sun’s rays attempted to shine through the Ghost Storm her face became strangely calm. Templars, Companions and squires that had gathered to watch her watched in astonishment as she turned to dust. Only her sword and tabard were left of her.

No-one knows what she did in those six months of her disappearance of why she committed suicide like she did. Whatever the case her sword was hung in the Hall of Heroes. Soon after that she appeared in a vision to a young squire.

The Deed:

Saint Covenant appeared to the squire when she killed her mentor Templar who she had looked at in both awe and affection when the Templar contracted the faminite plague. We suppose those who are forced to destroy that which is dear to them are visited by this Martyr

Sarah Covenant, Saint of Darkness

Covenant walked the thin line between Darkness and Salvation most of her vampiric (un)life. Her hatred of the vampires that made her one them caused her to use her powers as a means to the end. Chances are when she stumbled into Boise she was almost totally damned and knew that the only way to go out was to be purified by the sun’s light. Templar’s blessed by Covenant are likely walking that thin line themselves and Covenant might push them one way or another.

Deed: Covenant appears to Templars who destroy something very dear to them out of necessity rather than choice. This doesn’t have to be a person but could be an object of great sentimental value.

White: The Templar gains +2 to any one Sneak roll. Alternatively once per session, The Templar can spend a white chip to remove a corruption point.

Red: When the Templar ever successfully strikes an opponent in melee they may spend a red chip to heal a number of wound levels equal to the number of wound levels they dealt. This ability can be used after the roll to hit but must be used before damage is rolled. Whatever the case the Templar gains a corruption point each time they use this ability.

Blue: If the Templar is standing in a heavily shadowed area (Marshal’s decision and yes, there are shadows at night-time!) they may spend a Blue chip to teleport to another shadowed area they can see. If it’s night-time they instead teleport to any place within 20 yards. This ability may not be used as a Vamoose. Each time the Templar uses this ability they gain a corruption point.

Legend: By spending a Legend Chip the Templar gains the ability to use the Anti-Templar’s Death and War powers. The Legend Chip just activates the ability to use these powers, the Templar still has to use chips to use the powers. This ability lasts for an number of hours equal to the Templar’s faith. The Templar gains a corruption point when they first activate this ability but they do not gain any extra corruption points by using the powers.

Vexation: Covenant hated the fact that she was a vampire and she hated all vampires as a result, and through association most creatures of the night. If the Templar does not attempt to investigate a rumour that suggests a rare abomination(Marshal’s decision but usually something few people have seen) then Covenant leaves them.

Anyway there you are. Comments welcome etc. and thanks.
