Without going into the very little I know about bullet flight paths, I
think you should also impose a "to-hit" penalty on them if firing in
zero-g (unless they've trained extensively in such an environment). Why?
Weapons are sighted and shooters trained to account for gravity and
atmospheric effects on the path of the bullet. Remove those effects, and
it could be difficult to compensate, if you even think about it. At range
it would be horribly difficult, I would think, unless the weapon has been
sighted-in in zero-g.
Now, if they took the time to calibrate their weapons when first entering
zero-g, you could reduce the penalty. But they might not think of it. . .
. and I'm not going to be the one to remind my players, when they get to
it. :-)
Oh! and before I forget, the chances are that firing the weapon while
unbraced would start a character tumbling, rather than rocketing through
space, since it will (almost certainly) not be held and fired along the
axis of the person's center of gravity. Just something else to think
about. . . .
