While agree with most of this, I have to recommend a dime novel: Killer
Klowns. I think it has several key elements of deadlands (abominations, a
ruined setting that people can relate to, beset upon survivors, evil
gangers, etc.) and hey, everyone loves to kill psychotic clowns. I'd
definitely nix the end though (with the octopus). It's too hard for
newbies. Just have them find the hostages and get them back to the town
with much fanfare.
