RE: [HOE] Ruger Redhawk

The Ruger Redhawks are all double-action revolvers. The Redhawk was Ruger's first double-action revolver and also the first to be chambered for the .44 magnum round, although they can be chambered for a wide variety of rounds.

You could probably modify it, which means you'd probably be replacing most of the innards with a Ruger Blackhawk model, which is probably one of the most popular of the Ruger New Model single action revolvers (or at least has the coolest name). It would be a lot easier to just get ahold of a Ruger Blackhawk single-action. There are a couple of different Blackhawk models, but the one you'd want would probably be the Ruger Super Blackhawk, chambered for that Dirty Harry .44 Buttery Magnumness, with of course the stainless steel finish, rosewood grip, and the 10 1/2 inch barrel (Model # KS411N).

The Ruger New Model Blackhawk (not Super) is slightly easier to fit down your pants and about a half or three-quarter pound lighter than the Super. It can be chambered for .30 Carbine, .357 Magnum, .41 Magnum, or 45 Long Colt. A couple of the .357 models are called Blackhawk Convertibles, and come with an extra cylinder that can be quickly swapped in/out that is chambered for the more popular 9mm parabellum round.

Other Ruger single-actions include the Vaquero, the Bisley-Vaquero, Super Single-Six, and the Single-Six/.32 H&R Magnum. If you're not hot on the Ruger family, there are maybe a few others. If you wanted to go with the original Dirty Harry gun, the Smith & Wession model 29 introduced the .44 magnum cartridge to the world in 1955, and comes in both single and double-action versions... either that or it can be operated in either mode... not sure about that. I think the only Colt you can get in .44 Magnum now is the double-action anaconda, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone had modified a Peacemaker or New Frontier to take the larger round.

O'course, if you want to go up from there, there's always the .454 Casull... just in case any school buses try to get a little too up close and personal...
I'm trying to create a crossover character who primarilly uses a pistol. It doesn't have to be an old west pistol because he will have lived a few hundred years and will have picked up a few toys on the way, but I want the look to be close to an old gunslinger. I also need him to be able to keep up with the damage from the posse. He's going to start with one relic so I want to avoid another. When I introduce him I want him to be quite normal too. His other powers will be introduced later. Does anyone know if a Ruger Redhawk is a single or double action pistol? If it is double action, is there any way to modify it to allow a character to fan the hammer? Failing that, is there any single action pistol that does 4d6 damage? If so, where can I find the stats?
