  In today's world of Real life gameshows and bizarre competitions are DUELS the best things you can come up with?  
    I see the idea of making characters (or just picking an archetype) and thinking of Survivor... Deadlands Style.  Arbitrary challenges and awards with cruel taskmasters and fatal challenges.  You know, "What do the Horsemen do to amuse themselves?"
    I'd put the characters in the ruins of a city (Hell, make it Phoenix)and in the city is one way out.  And, as things go on, really make it nasty.  Plague the characters, and give enough Antidote to cure all but one of them, limit their water supply, have monsters come after them.  Glamour Pusses may just want pieces of the most attractive character, but Tin Men want pieces of the most physically able.  
     Put Tummy twisters in the water.  The doombringer king of the streets will give three radiation suits to the three characters who do the best in his trials of mind, the fourth needs to find some other way to survive the irradiated subway.  And at the end of it all, there's just enough room in the escape pod for one.
