[HOE] Chain Saw

The problem with the "in the rules chainsaws are not as good as swords" argument is....

What about cool factor? Hell, We ALL remember our early gaming days where a longsword did 1d8 which was more than any other weapon... then WHY use other weapons? COOL factor. A guy with a chainsaw is cooler.

What about the fact that it is much easier to get your hands on a standard chainsaw than it is to get your mitts on a weapons grade sword. Yeah, a sharpened hubcap is not nearly as effective a long range weapon as a TSAR, but which are you going to find more of, hubcaps, or TSAR rounds? Same reason. Why, in a post apocalyptic game is this guy saying "Well only the best for me". A golf club is not nearly as good as either a chainsaw or a sword, but if that's all that's in the ruins, then Damnitt, yell "FORE!" and knock that Trog's head into the watertrap. Use what's avaliable, and there are more chainsaws than swords (Loot a Sears. Does Sears sell Chainsaws? Yes. Swords? No).

Yes, a weapons grade sword is a probably a better short range weapon than a chainsaw, the first was designed as a short range weapon, the other as a heavy duty woodcutting tool. I don't see any century old martial arts teaching use of the Chainsaw (As cool as that would be). So what? see reasons above why 'Fightin Chainsaw would still be a better skill.
