Hey all,
This is something that I have wondered about myself. I'm a fan of the old
Twilight:2000 and in that game, character generation revolved around going
though 4 year terms and gaining skill points for that job (If you were a
marine helo piolt you would get X points in Flying and y points in
whatever.) Different jobs would give different skill sets and the longer
you stayed in a job, the better you got at it.

I had thought about doing that for HoE, but then I realized that something
like that would be covered by the Profession and Trade skills.
Everytime I make a character with a profession like that I give them a
professional skill at a level. In my games I use that as a generic defult
for skills that would best fit. For example and Ex-Science teacher could
use that skill instead of Academia to represent some exposure to that area.
A sales clerk could use it as a form of persuasion. Another example would
have a former cop using his Profession:Cop skill to find forensic evidence.

Also instead of saying "To be an accountant you get level 3 in
Trde:accounting level 2 in Scrutinize and level 4 in choose ties" they
could be guidelines "To be a former Bus Driver you should have Drivin':Bus
and Tinkerin. That way the actual skills would be lef up to the player/
(Maybe they were a bad Lawyer so to reflect this they only had an
Academia:Law 1 or 2)

Just a thought

Doc out
