[HOE] New Cyborg equipment
OK, I've figured out a solution to this whole schism between the
illustrations in Cyborgs and the way cans are presented in the text.
I've written up descriptions for huge, oversized replacement parts that
look like the pictures in the book. They can have extra gear crammed in,
but they're expensive as Hell and have some really bad side effects to
boot. Realistically, most PCs won't be able to afford these systems, so
this is probably only going to be useful for Marshals (but PC cans know
this stuff is out there, so no spoilers are necessary).
The only restriction besides money for getting these replacements is that
they can only be put onto a heavy can (militaries only trusted these
investments with the cans that had powerful AIs).
Giant Arm
Cost: $6000
Type: Integral
Spirit Loss: 3
Mounts: None
Drain: 1
Location: Arm
This is an oversized replacement arm. They only saw service in the
heaviest cans produced by the military, the real walking tanks with too
much gear to fit into even the normal replacement limbs. Each of these
monster limbs has 10 mount locations, instead of the 8 in normal
replacement arms. Also, if a can is equipped with two of these arms, his
size is effectively increased by 1 (to reflect the amount of extra
bracing that must go into the body to support these things).
Giant Legs
Cost: $10,000
Type: Integral
Spirit Loss: 6
Mounts: None
Drain: 3
Location: Legs
This system replaces both of the deader’s legs with gigantic,
piston-driven appendages (technically, it would be possible to replace
only one, but who wants to have one leg that’s 5 feet long, and another
that’s normal?). Like the giant arm, these legs were mainly used for
extra space to cram stuff into, and have 10 mounts instead of 8. Any
deader with this system implanted has his Size increased by 1.
Giant Torso
Cost: $10,000
Type: Integral
Spirit Loss: 3
Mounts: None
Drain: 1
Location: Torso
Yeah, you got it; it makes you bigger (+1 Size), has more mounts (12),
and means you need a shoehorn and a gallon of butter to fit through a
barn door. This system can’t be bought unless the deader also has giant
legs.
Any deader that has two limbs or a torso of this sort has a few things to
deal with: first, he’s Ugly as Sin–5. He sinks like a rock in water,
unless he has the Frogman system, and even then his underwater Pace is
divided by 4. Replacements of this sort that also have the Samson system
installed get an additional 2 levels of Strength, just to help keep the
poor can standing (though, as usual, that extra strength is totally
useless unless you’ve got all your limbs and torso replaced). And, of
course, he has to deal with everything that goes with having a Size
somewhere between 7 and 9, including having to ride in the back of the
posse’s pickup wherever he goes.
