[HOE] Compatibility
Hi,
I was thinking about a movie I have yet to see and a book I have read and their
respective compatibility with Hell on Earth:
* Series 7: The Contenders - the movie I can't wait to see. Basic plot:
Survivor, where you have 7 contestants and last person standing is the winner.
Set in a city. You kill the other 6 contestants (or have them kill the others -
point is you're alive the other 6 are dead). Compatibility: make up a small
city and up to 7 characters. Interesting roleplaying activities for alliances
if you run into someone and don't just start shooting. Of course, you have to
stab 'em in the back sometime.
Needless to say, this should stick mostly with using the HoE mechanics without
backplot. Maybe some supernatural, but set it pre-Last War. Also, you don't
want anything the public "doesn't know about" - Sykers, Harrowed, Super
Soldiers - no. Ordinary people, maybe some explainable supernatural. The point
just is that HoE mechanics - esp. with the guns they offer - lend themselves to
this. At least, I think they'll work great.
* Resurrection Day - the book I have read. Great book, BTW. Basic plot:
non-Supernatural HoE; October 1962, the USA invades Cuba. Surprise surprise:
missiles are ready. Tac nukes handle our landing forces, and some of our cities
(not to mention large parts of Cuba and the USSR) go up in the nuclear flame.
Now, I'm not sure which list (this or videssos) that this book was reccomended
on, but I'm going to throw Spoiler Space here, so if you plan to read it (I can
post the rest of the info for those who don't have it), I don't want to ruin it
for you.
If you have read it or don't plan to (but want to offer advice anyway), feel
free to continue:

Ok... here's the plot, set *to* Hell on Earth. It's a one-shot, and not every
plot element is the same. The USA (or CSA, or Deseret, or anyone else for that
matter) has set up fences around the cities that were nuked; cleared out
survivors and are guarding the cities. Basic idea is that they'll get cleaned
up and able to be re-inhabited, but they're not open for the public.
They're planning on opening one up soon - in time for an inauguration of the
next president. Everyone on the tour through the city is either press or
military:
There is still survivors in the cities. They come out at night, and they avoid
the military. They figure living here is safer than outside, where they have to
deal with the military, draft, other bandits, etc. During the course of the
tour, the party's jeep is attacked (sniper bullet kills NPC driver, his gun is
bolted down, and roads are blocked by cars that haven't been removed yet from
the streets - cars that were being driven when the bombs hit). Maybe they
figure out stuff from what went on in the book (survivors planning on coming
out; party leaves town safely and tries to find out what the survivors have in
store for them when they come out, and get warning to them or stop the problem,
etc).
Ok, I'm kinda thinking on my keyboard now. It seemed like a good idea when I
was reading it, maybe it isn't...
