The weapon die is modified by the armor, the strength roll (as an attribute
check) is unmodified. Thus, in the example above I only have to "convert"
the 1d8 sword damage by one point of armor. The 3d6 remains 3d6. You're
still rolling different dice, but you don't have to do two different
conversions.
Unless, of course, the weapon damage is modified below 1d4, in which case
the Strength is irrelevant.

Yes. Inflicting four wounds on someone is usually enough. So is using the
simplified "grunt" rules, usually, since I'll have someone pass out well
before they take all 36 points (6 Size x 6 pt. each, or whatever).
