[HOE] Do Harrowed really get better with age?
Here's another question for ya'll:
Should harrowed be allowed to improve their stats? Everything in the book
points to the fact that harrowed (un)naturally return to the state they
were in when they were resurrected. Death wounds that were there before
resurrection stay, wounds taken after heal quickly, even if the harrowed
shaves his/her hair it grows back to he same length it was at originally
and stops.
This tends to indicate that harrowed are pretty much stuck the way they
are and can't really change/improve any. The manitou keeps them going, but
also keeps them down. So maybe they shouldn't be able to up their stats
naturally. How would a harrowed get stronger? He can't increase his muscle
mass it seems. Same with other physical stats. The same could also be said
for mental stats. Never mind the fact that you can't really get any
smarter, the only way to justify it would be to say that the player tapped
into natural abilities that he didn't know he had before. But maybe a
harrowed can't do that, he's peaked.
Now naturally garden-variety harrowed have a perfectly acceptable way
around this with the power Supernatural Trait. In this case they are using
unnatural powers to up the stats that they can't up normally. So why even
have this discussion?
Because a rule like this could be a way to keep powerful cyborgs in check.
While the rest of the posse can improve their stats cyborgs are stuck with
what they and their machine bits can do for them. It really does make
sense that they have what they have and can't get any better.
Now the arguement could extend to skills, but on some level the harrowed's
brain still functins and can learn. Besides, the rule could be used to
hobble powerful char, not hamstring them and leave them twitching on the
ground :)
