You triggered one of my buttons.

In many ways, I hate commercialization of the internet as much as the
next guy.  I was on the net before there was such a thing as ".com"
(it was all so-and-so.arpa, and even the ".arpa" was new-fangled).
But let me tell you that before the network backbone went commercial,
performace SUCKED BIG RED ROCKS.  Nobody ever tried to transfer a
file above 50kB in the daytime, and even that was hit-or-miss.  (And
almost the entire internet was within 4 timezones, so "daytime" had a
well-defined meaning.)

So an honest buck for an honest digital product is fine by me.  And
I dare you to draw a sensible line between sunscribing to an online
magazine and paying for downloadable files.
