this is pretty much how I'd pictured it. Even if the huge chemical
injections don't turn the brain into something that resembles a lump of
paraffin more than a central nervous system, the process would probably
make the body uninhabitable. The joints would be more apt to crak off
than bend, the skin loses all elasticity and certain handy internal
organs, like the trachea and lungs, would be either removed or shriveled
beyond use.
One could also say that the government reccomends a certain chemical be
used that wrecks the brain for manitou inhabitation, and that would cut
down on harrowings. But that kind of direct intervention would likely
have been mentioned in the books.
