While the movie sure Hell had some downsides, Jeremy Irons was acting that way
on *purpose*. He was playing a cheesy, one-dimensional, stereotypical strongarm
villain--exactly the same sort the we've all seen in countless numbers of D&D
campaigns--and he played it to the hilt, hamming it up and delivering his lines
with all the sneering, over-the-top Evil(tm) that the role demands.

My friends and I have found that this movie is a LOT more fun if you don't try
to take it at all seriously, but instead as a tongue-in-cheek send-up of every
stereotypical, poorly-conceived D&D campaign you've ever seen. It's wonderfully
successful at this even if it is completely accidental...
