I'm sure I'm not alone on this, but what I generally do in a case like
that is have a higher target number for the Tinkerin' roll than the Trade: X
roll. For example, working on a gun to negate the -1 modifier for a cheap
weapon is a Tinkerin' 9 or Trade: Weaponsmith 5.
