It's a dark alternate history. If I lived my life with the supernatural and
fear just out of sight, vaguely distrubed but never sure what was going on,
I'd buy blocky, solid-looking 1970ish cars rather than the flimsy-looking
designs we see nowadays. The oval cars never caught on because people's
psychology regarding that sort of thing was different in the Deadlands
universe than our own. They can still have all the benefits of a modern car
while looking sorta blocky.

In a similiar vein, in the 2020s people could feel the world powers
ratcheting up for war as pedictions that we were going to run out of Ghost
Rock rolled in. On a subconcious level, they wanted cars that would survive
the end of the world. The subconcious was never more right...

P.S. I think the real reason is Pinnacle *wanted* to evoke Car Wars, but
that's a sort of a meta thing. ;)
