That's what I meant by "reduce the damage by a die" above (as opposed to if
I had said, "reduce the damage by a die _type_"). Although this seems to be
a type of terminology that causes confusion before (i.e., the old massive
damage rules).

The problem is that the AP rules don't say to do this _instead_ or _in lieu_
of modifying AP damage by -2/-4. Ummm, do they...? Again, can you verbatim
quote the entire section if you have it there? Thanks!
If not, I'll try to quote what we believe are the relevant sections when I
grab a copy of the rulebook tomorrow (Wednesday).
Anyhoo, yes, I would agree some kind of ruling is necessary. :)
*shrug* As I might have noted before, we've always found the Pinnacle armor
rules a bit...odd. Everyone knows, for instance, that AV has variable
effectiveness, depending on how many dice the incoming attack has. AV1 will
reduce the damage of a crossbow (2d6+2) from an average of 9 to an average
of 7 - a poorer reduction than -4 light armor!
On the other hand, that same AV1 will reduce the damage of a 3d20 Nuke from
31.5 to 19.5 (a 12 point difference).
We've always thought the "Reduce the die # by 1" PLUS normal "Light armor
protection of -2/-4" was just another one of those quirks.
