Re: [HOE] Would you allow this man his character?

If he cheated? Well that's easy. Boot! Life's to short to game with people like
that. Period.

Well if he drew it fine. What's another overpowered character in HoE? :) hehe.

Sure its a pain but if it was a fair draw then good for him.

One thing I will say. And yes I will probably regret it. The whole argument
"Well he drew it! Nothing wrong there!" (Which I myself used above.) fails to
see the other end from a Marshal's standpoint. The creation process does allow
for unbalanced characters. Both ways.
Say a player draws 4 Deuces. And the Black Joker. Or no joker at all. No
player is going to keep that. Sure plenty will say "I would.. its a
challenge!" uh huh. Sure.
The majority will blink and go "Wow.. that was awful." And re-draw while
the marshall shakes his head and agrees. Nothing is worse than playing a
character that you don't like. But if the marshall lets him get rid of that
god-awful draw then he has a reason for balking at the all aces too. If you
let them redraw the bad ones then you, as a marshal, should have a say in the
drawing of the super good ones.
Now before some literal minded person attempts a chart or "what exactly is
the cut off point then? Three aces? two?" crud, I want to say that I wouldn't
want a four deuce character in my posse anymore than a four ace one. The four
Deuce character would be interesting sure and if a player really wanted to try
it, fine. But he would be weak to the point of being a near liability to the
posse. Again I know that if he min/maxes or has other decent cards he may not.
But the point is: the all Ace character would be as strong as the all deuce is
weak.
In the case of the all Ace, all singing, all dancing char' of the universe:
Sure. That's one happy camper. But there is always the four deuce character who
is never even considered.
Sure. Redraw. Why not. Those four aces could come up. And you get to keep
those. :)
The two extremes are no different really.

So when a marshall blinks and says "Hmm what do I do about him... " don't
immediately assume that the Marshal is just out to tear you down. He's trying
to keep your new ace character challenged and having a good time, but not at
the expense of the rest of the posse.
