Hmm...and _your_ thought brings to mind (well, at least my mind for some
reason) the tolerable sci-fi Jamie Lee Curtis movie "Virus".  Mix a
loose adaption of this concept with Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of
Hill House" (the book, not that god-awful Liam Neeson/Catherine Zeta
Jones thing...good sets and thats about it) and you've got some
interesting possibilities.  Actually, one might even look to "Event
Horizon" for some related possibilities (it was sort of a deep space
submarine...).  Sure it was a bad movie, but it's original intentions
(which _were_ to be a ghost story, before they gave up and turned into a
Hellraiser knockoff) were good - there's some salvagable material there
for a sub scenario.
