Re: [HoE] computer rpg utilities -- off topic?
Hello everybody,
First off, I really appreciate all of the great feedback and I'm going
to try to respond to the group as a whole.
So far, the requests have come in two broad categories:
fairly quick to write apps:
1) a junk generator - David Heth has generously offered his junk list
from the Waste O' Space
2) junker divide builder
fairly involved apps:
1) NPC relationship tracker
2) Calendar / event planer to help gm's plan/plot adventures.
3) Searchable online compendium of submitted story ideas
I want to do all of these, but I think that I will start with the junk
list and the junker device builder. These, especially the junker
assistant, seem to be ones I can crank out the fastest and seem to have
the most demand.
re: Palm dice roller. Dirk, there are a couple already out there.
Check out http://www.gothtech.com/cgi-bin/pilot.asp. Let me also say
that I'm interviewing with Metrowerks next week, who make one of the
compiler's for the Palm. If I get that job, I'll not only try to make
the dice roller you want, but I'll also try to do the junkers assistant.
I can just see a person playing a junker tapping along on the palm
pilot while the character is thinking about device design.
re: Help. I do appreciate the offers for help, but right now I'm doing
these projects as an excuse to polish my skills in my weak areas as a
programmer. If there are pieces I don't have time to do or need help
with, I will be sure to call.
re: Spreadsheets. I've been a fan of spreadsheet programming since
Excel 2.0 whenI made a spreadsheet to build champions characters. (first
experience with programming) The are great, accurate, fast, extendable,
and somewhat cross platform. The only downside to them is that they are
of no use to someone who doesn't own the spreadsheet.
Thanks to all. No promises at this point, but I hope to get some of
this done within the next few weeks. I will keep you posted on the list
and ask which of y'all will be foolish enough to beta test for me then.
Bwaaaa haaaa haaa haaaa!
These suggestions and comments have really help solidify some of the
ideas I've had and suggested some great new directions. Keep them
coming. All ideas I get are being saved and compiled for future projects.
