Here's an idea that might work for the templar that
just _has_ to use that sword.  It's kind of a
compromise on a couple of things I've seen listed thus
far.  It's an adaptation of the vorpal blade gift I
have on my website.

Vorpal Blade V. 2.0
This gift wraps the templar's sword in magical fire,
allowing him to cut through his opponent's defenses.  
Level 1: Ignore up to 5 points of light armor
Level 2&3: AP 1, ignore all light armor (I am under
the assumption that anything that is AP ignore light
armor.)
Level 4&5: AP 2
Greater Reward: The templar can summon his sword to
his side, no matter what the distance.  A cloud of
flame appears in front of the templar, from which he
pulls out his sword.  Summoning the sword in this way
takes an action.
